"King" by Al Capone, the first film of this long-running British play featuring musical accompaniment by Edward Alcock, is one of the most popular plays of all time. Its original composer James Brown, best known for writing "The King and the Queen," was instrumental in crafting the style of the play using a mixture of jazz and classical. This play is credited as the definitive "Gospel" of musical accompaniment in the United States and, as great as its production was, it was much more widely considered musical than just an original score. The play garnered a whopping $7.5 million in worldwide critical acclaim and also became the first musical video for the Beatles (yes, "The King and the Queen" was released in 1981).
